DIY lighted plywood sign

I typically don’t do too much for Valentine’s Day decorating, but I decided to try a little project this year.  We’ve been working really hard on our new (old) house, and our current house needed a little bit of love!

I was inspired by this pin – but pink and hearts just isn’t really my style.  I decided to try the idea, but to go with a piece of plywood to make it a little less typical Valentines:

It cost me less than $5, and I seriously love it!  I think I may be able to keep it up past Valentine’s Day too – so that’s a big win!

All you’ll need for this project is plywood, a drill, and a strand of Christmas lights.

The hardware store has sheets of 2×2 plywood for less than $5, so you don’t even need to cut it down!  I freehanded the lettering (lightly) on the plywood.  Then, I figured out how many bulbs I had to work with, and I mapped out where the bulbs would go with pencil.

Tip: make sure your marks are close enough together so your lights reach the holes easily.

Optional: have your busy and curious toddler stomp all over the project while you’re working on it (as I shared on Instagram)

Creating projects certainly looks different when you’re a toddler mom and hey – I’m actually making something for the #hibbshouse – it’s been all about the new house lately – my house is getting a little neglected

Erase all of your penciled lines, and then drill your holes in your marked spots.  Make sure your drill bit is large enough to fit the bulb, but not big enough to put the plastic piece through.

Flip over your plywood & stick the lights through.  This took a little longer than I thought it would, but it really didn’t take too long.  I secured it down with duct tape once I was done placing them in their holes:

I flipped it around, and I loved the finished product!!
